STATEMENT
My career as a clinical social worker,
specializing in helping families, has shaped my artistic expression. I am preoccupied with notions of
connectedness and human communication. My hope is that my work invites the viewer to
look at the "other" and
re-visit notions of same and different.
I have been fortunate to have had many experiences of travel in other
countries and this has facilitated an exploration of our common spirit in my
work.
Much of my fibre work is based on
photographs that I have taken while traveling.
I am driven by that rare moment of contact, the pure experience of
living in the moment and making a meaningful connection with another.
I prefer to work with fabric,
usually cotton and silk, that I have printed, dyed, painted and stitched. Although I have explored working with metals
and clay, my preference is fibre since it is the "hand" of the cloth
that I enjoy.
