BIOGRAPHY
Eileen Donovan
is a fiber artist and photographer. Donovan began her early work with paint on
fabric and later with dyes. Her experiences with dye and paint have been in
workshops with Elin Noble, Melanie Testa and Elizabeth Busch. Presently under
Jane Dunnewold, Donovan is enrolled in The Art Cloth Mastery Program studying
surface design on fabric in San Antonio, Texas. When the ability of using
photographs put to fabric became available, a new world opened for her. She
could now take her images into Photoshop to edit and print them on fabric to
begin creating her art.
Donovan’s work
has been juried in to The Houston Quilt Festival in a special exhibition called
Digital Alchemy (2015), View at Old Forge in The Central Adirondack
Art Show (2015), and The Lapham Gallery in Textures (2014). Her work
has also shown at The Shirt Factory Gallery, NY (2015), and Saratoga Arts
Council, NY (2014). Donovan has received awards for her work. Her work is
currently part of a traveling exhibit with the Adirondack Regional Textile
Artists’ Alliance in Quiltfest under Mancuso Management. Donovan is a member of Studio Art Quilt
Associates, Adirondack Regional Textile Artists’ Alliance, Saratoga Arts
Council, and Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council. Her work is included in a
number of public and private collections.
At the 2016 Houston International Quilt Festival, Donovan exhibited 3 works as part of the special exhibit TEN VOICES FROM ONE: Work by the Art Cloth Mastery Program 2014, curated by Jane Dunnewold (November 2016).

STATEMENT
I would say
that I am an observer; I watch the world around me. Sometimes nature and
humanity are spectacular or sometimes solitary and quiet. I try to convey the
sentiments and feelings that nature and humanity evoke in me through my
photography and art quilts. To me, my art is a mirror of my feelings, my
understanding of a subject, and it is this blend that inspires me and the
materials and techniques I use. Photographs printed on fabric, dyes and paints
are some of the techniques used to create my images.
