Jean Heselden

BIOGRAPHY

Following a career as a Law Librarian, Jean Heselden found a creative outlet for her energies by embarking on her fiber arts journey.  She has studied with Elin Noble, Els van Baarle, Elyn Worrall, and Jane Dunnewold.  Recently Heselden completed  the two year Art Cloth Mastery Program at Jane Dunnewold Studios in San Antonio, TX (2014-16).

Heselden also practices traditional hand stitched Hawaiian needle turn applique quilting and provides weekly cultural demonstrations of this craft at the Makawao History Museum on Maui.

Heselden is a Co-Vice President of the Maui Quilt Guild and a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates.

By invitation, Heselden exhibited at the Jane Dunnewold Studios during the On and Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour in San Antonio, Texas (February 2016).

At the 2016 Houston International Quilt Festival, Heselden exhibited 3 works as part of the special exhibit TEN VOICES FROM ONE: Work by the Art Cloth Mastery Program 2014, curated by Jane Dunnewold (November 2016).

STATEMENT

Through fiber arts, I extend my role as a bridge between the cultures of my parents, Japan and America, and seek also to represent my adopted home in Hawaii.  My Japanese middle name, Shizue, may be translated as Peaceful Blessing.  Through my work I strive to convey the peaceful blessings of nature.
