BIOGRAPHY:
Cindy Ferguson first started creating fiber art as a child when she
learned to quilt, embroider, sew and crochet from her grandmothers and mother. After retiring from the computer industry, Ferguson
studied with a number of teachers including David Walker, Esterita Austin and
Nancy Crow. In 2014 she started a two
year Art Cloth Mastery Program with Jane Dunnewold. Ferguson's work was shown in the Fredericksburg
Road Artist’s Studio Tour (2016).
At the 2016 Houston International Quilt Festival, Ferguson exhibited 3 works as part of the special exhibit TEN VOICES FROM ONE: Work by the Art Cloth Mastery Program 2014, curated by Jane Dunnewold (November 2016).
STATEMENT:
For most of my life I have used fiber arts, and especially
quilting, to express my creativity. I
have found great joy in starting with white fabric and creating my own designs. I manipulate the fabric and then dye it which
creates interesting textures. To
complete my design I print and stitch to add more layers to the quilt.
I have another passion which is gardening. I find inspiration from the plants in my
garden and I love to examine their patterns and textures. My recent work is inspired by the lotus plant
and its leaves, flowers, seed pods and root.
